Statement Condemning the Afghan Authorities' Permanent Ban on Women's Education
The Office of Liu Jianyong
January 27, 2026
The Afghan Taliban authorities' Ministry of Education recently announced a permanent ban on women's access to education in public schools, secondary institutions, and universities. The "gender segregation" policy enforced by the Afghan Taliban authorities severely violates international law and grossly infringes upon the right to education for millions of Afghan women. We believe that the discrimination and oppression of women by the Afghan Taliban authorities are systematic and institutional, fundamentally anti-human rights and anti-humanity. We express our strong indignation at this!
We reiterate that we do not recognize the legitimacy of the Afghan Taliban regime and urge relevant countries to immediately withdraw their recognition of it. We once again call on the international community to focus on the dire situation of Afghan women and to continue imposing sanctions and pressure on the Afghan Taliban authorities until the legitimate rights of Afghan women are fully restored.
